I want to coin a new saying - 'Get to know a person by looking at his/her kitchen and bathroom'. If the bedroom is called the heart of the home, then the kitchen or the bathroom could be called the stomach and intestines of the house (just my idea, mate).
Let's start with the kitchen. This is the place where the food of the family is cooked. While this is no easy chore, any measures that could make cooking tasks easier are most welcome. A first would be to invest in handy kitchen equipment, such as food processors, cooking ranges, and other stuff. While these electronic gadgets may consume more power, the benefits they provide, so far as improvements in cooking efficiency are concerned cannot be disputed.
Of course, the basic infrastructure of the kitchen can never be downplayed. This implies the layout of the various kitchen furniture items. A sturdy granite or marble platform would be apt for the kitchen, this platform running from wall to wall. You could do with a few sideboards too. The sideboards are applicable for placing pots and pans and even for keeping cutting boards used for vegetables and meats. A few chairs and folding tables could also be placed in the kitchen for the lady of the house to rest her weary feet after a hard day's cooking.
For systematic organization of the various kitchen items, it is advisable to get wall-to-wall cabinets with multiple shelves and compartments. A plate rack would serve to act as a means of storing all your plates and dishes. Also, a dishwasher can be a useful device to have when there is a stack of dishes to be washed after a party or a big family get-together.
As the saying goes, 'Cleanliness is next to Godliness'. Here is a where the wastebaskets and the bins come in the picture. As all of us know, the daily amount of garbage being created in the kitchen would put even a municipal worker anywhere in the UK to shame.
As for the bathroom, there are too many bathroom accessories to mention. I will keep that for another article. Let us keep it at mentioning that a decent tiling infrastructure and proper draining is a must.
Let's now move to the living room. There is not much to mention about this room. Elaborate main sofas as well as corner sofas would do the trick to make your living room look inviting. A sofa bed with cushions or duvet sets would be an even better idea. Plush rugs on the floor would provide adequate cushioning for your feet and also add a touch of cosiness to the room. Coffee tables, and an audio visual device would complete the room, both for the guests as well as for the residents. Bookcases would add an intellectual charm to the room.
